You may be asking yourself why would anyone ever want to run a marathon? If I’m running 26 point freaking 2 miles, trust me, it’s not for me. It’s to raise awareness, to shine a light on an amazing foundation and to fundraise. That being said, this grateful runner is beyond excited to be running the 127th Boston Marathon on April 17, 2023 for Operation Shockwave. I have the utmost respect and gratitude for our service men and women. It is a great honor and a privilege to serve our great country. As great as our country is it falls short on providing mental health services and support to our Veterans. So please help me help our Veterans.
My running mantra is “run because you can…run for those who can’t.” Every run is dedicated to someone. I write their name on my hand and pray for them during my run. Anytime I having a tough run all I need to do is just look at my hand. Seeing their name, thinking of their struggle, brings me some perspective.
May 2014 marked the beginning of family illness for me. At the age of 46 my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer stage 4. He was then diagnosed with liver cancer in October 2019. His battle was one fought with unwavering strength, tenacity and positivity. He was called Home in May 2020.
We realized early on in his illness just how truly blessed we were to have “Team Tenacious D” by our side every step of the way. The outpouring of love, support, kindness and compassion we received was overwhelming and humbling. We vowed to “pay it forward.” So here I am running my fourth Boston Marathon (seventh marathon overall) and fundraising for Operation Shockwave!
